[edit] Major Events [edit] Joop den Uyl biography reveals Northrop bribe of Prince Bernhard Prince Bernhard in 1999. Image: Sander Lamme. A biography on former Dutch Prime Minister Joop den Uyl reveals that the late Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands in the 1970s not only took bribes from Lockheed, but also from Northrop. These two U.S. aircraft companies were competitors for a fighter jet contract for the Dutch defence. The bribe by Lockheed led to a major scandal, and Den Uyl decided to keep the Northrop bribe covered-up, since it could have created a constitutional crisis in the Netherlands.
